Covid -19 and Norovirus

Covid -19 and Norovirus Outbreaks- UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) data released shows a sharp increase in reports of confirmed cases of Norovirus.

Infections are currently 66% higher than the normal average at this time of year.

The largest increase of confirmed cases is in the age group of 65 years and over.

Reports are showing that the majority of these outbreaks are occurring in Schools, Care Homes and Hospitals.

With Care Homes showing the highest number of these outbreaks.

Norovirus is highly infectious and is easily spread through contact with someone with the infection.

Covid -19 and Norovirus can also be spread by contact contaminated surfaces.

It is important to drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.

This is especially important for the very young, elderly or anyone with a weakened immune system.

Sanitising and Decontaminating property either after an outbreak has occurred or pro actively can be hugely important to prevent the spread of these viruses.

Sanitisation methods vary with these depending on which virus it is, Please also remember that alcohol wipes DO NOT kill Norovirus.

If you do have Norvirus- Stay at home if you have symptoms.

Do not return to work or send Children to School until 48 hours after symptoms have cleared.

Try to avoid preparing meals for anyone until 48 hours after symptoms stop.
