Do Your Gutters Need the UKCC Treatment?

October 16, 2014 – by Tony Earnshaw

Your commercial or industrial property’s gutters may appear to be an insignificant part of your wider structure but they perform a vital role in keeping your premises in tip top condition. Just like any other part of your property, your gutter system needs to be cleaned, repaired and maintained to remain in working order. Without this attention your gutters will fail resulting in devastating consequences for your wider property.

Clogged gutters will affect your foundations, with the excess water leaking into your soil causing irreparable damage, internal and external damp, and in more serious cases, subsidence. Incorrectly maintained gutters can also cause the wood within your property to rot, making it unstable and susceptible to insect attack. Whilst the early stages of clogged and unkempt gutters may not be obvious to the naked eye, the long term consequences can be devastating but how can you tell if your gutters need cleaning or repairing?

Look out for damp

The appearance of damp on both the inside and outside of your property is perhaps one of the most obvious signs that your gutters are not working as they should be.

The role of your gutter system is to catch rainwater and transport this away from your property, however, if gutters become clogged with debris and dirt, excess water is unable to flow freely and move away from your property effectively. This results in the overflowing of the gutters with the excess water leaking onto or worse into your building. Damp will also show itself as mould growth so keep your eyes peeled! Leaking water may also cause gutter fixings to become rusted and broken.

Inefficient draining

Keeping a closer eye on how water drains from your property after bad weather strikes may also indicate that your gutters are in need of cleaning or repair. Overflowing gutters, particularly in light rainfall, is a sign that your gutters are not performing correctly.

Sagging systems

Water left sitting in your system due to blockages can place a heavy burden on the gutters causing the pipes to sag and move away from your home. Whilst our gutter cleaning service is able to clear these blockages to ensure that water is able to move freely and away from your property once again, gutters that have become too damaged may have to be repaired or replaced.

The UK Commercial Cleaning team offer a range of repair services to flush pipes, fix leaks, unblock drains and flood test gutters. We also use the latest technology to ensure gutters can be maintained and repaired as effectively as possible.
